fashion fail

Well the fashion show was bust.. by the time i was able to try to order tickets online the order form had been replaced with a "please buy tickets at the gate" message... which is really just sales-speak for "we're technically sold out but there's always people who don't show so if you show up with $20 cash and we can fit you in then we will"
I didn't want to play that game.
If i hadn't failed about ording the tix online on tues like i should have then it would have been ok.
oh well... $40 I got to keep. They did this last year and this year and i think they hope to do it next year too.

So I'm up way to damn late again (I should seriously find and install AIM so me and Mich can chat like the insomniacs we are) and I'm going thru the swagvids.. because the Spring 2012 fashion videos have arrived yay!!
Sadly the swagvids are loading as slow as ever so i got 2 swagvids tabs up and my blogger in another window.
Thus far i am not impressed.. there seems to be a little-girl metatheme going on? I've checked out Thakoon (this is considered Ready to Wear??) and Marc Jacobs (saran wrap skirts or something?) and just finished Jeremy Scott.. which really made me think of a little girl theme. Even his heels were done to look like little girl saddle shoes from way back when, and the girls were in crazy pigtails with curlycues on top of their heads.
And again... THIS is considered Ready to Wear? New York City and London must count as their own alternate universe.
I'm guessing Proenza is going for a tribal/primal thing by their music choice, and I kinda see it in the clothes... but I like the 3 forest-y pieces better. Eh.
I don't get fashion i guess.
I'm not gonna bother mentioning specific names unless something really sticks out, either good or bad.
Things in common thus far.. ever notice that they're always throwing around words like fresh, sexy, young, nubile, always the same. "Simple yet sophisticated" and "done but not too done" are phrases i hear season after season.
And my pet peeve... "like...like...like.. wearable... like.. for everyone (even tho it's only for anorexics, i swear)... like.. just... you know... like....."
"Texture" also gets thrown around a lot.
Fashion goes in cycles. I think the main reason I feel so compelled to keep old fashion mags around is because I'm always tickled to find an old trend resurface... but then I want to go hunt up the last time i saw that trend.
Aquascutum.. I see the saran wrap finish again, looks like thin plastic floating around. And it does float and flow, perhaps the idea there is a silicon lake? i dunno but I'm annoyed at it. Other than that the shapes were a bit more flattering... oh.. female designer, yea that makes sense.

I really think that female designers will produce at least slightly more wearable fashions, simply because she's more likely to actually wear her creations... whereas the male designers just play Dress up Barbie with the models.
Perhaps i should start trying to see if there's a relationship between having a male designer and if the models tend to be skinnier than with a female designer. I mean all models are skinny. But I think it was the Ralph Lauren shows that had those super-bony models that made headlines back when the Size Zero uproar really gathered steam? Feel free to correct me. My mags were all thrown out by a well-meaning R who was trying to get me floorspace.

here's another clue if a fashion designer tends to prefer anorexic models: boxy shapes. Boxy silhouettes will only ever look good on a super-skinny person.

I think Burberry Prorsum Spring 2012 is mislabeled.. I'm seeing coats and sweaters. Someone messed up? At least no saran wrap.. or maybe i missed it while blogging?

Ok I've seen this glorified fanny pack thing in a couple shows now... WHAT THE FUCK?? Dresses and skirts and blouses that include this puffed out flap in the stomach area.. really?
Again someone's aiming for the anorexics cuz no one of a normal weight will look even remotely good in that. They seriously look like a fancy fanny pack sewn onto the clothes. A belly flap. Seriously?

Theysken's Theory also has the saran wrap, tho it's a tighter fit. Ok so... shiny and mesh and see-thru is the spring trend.. I've seen it many times now.

Todd Lynn is weird but different. Ahahah Singing in the Rain!

Oscar de la Renta has some drool-worthy gowns. I liked most of that.. very easy on the shine.. yay! One gown seriously looked like she was swathed in foaming milk or something, that was an interesting effect. The other gowns were simple and lovely. And yes i liked the shorter dresses too. Looked like ivory lace in my vid.. pretty pretty and hints of old-fashioned. Too bad i have no place to wear such things.. assuming I could afford them ^_^

Looking for something fancy for you time out on the beach? Check out Mark Fast, where straw and cheesecloth and crochet were the main theme... as were clearly visible nipples. Perfect for all your exhibitionist swimming needs!

oooo Erdem was rather ladylike, old-fashioned. I can even ignore the shiny pieces, at least they weren't totally see-thru.

There's a cute pink-haired model i first saw in Charlotte's Fall 2011 runway back in ....February?.... Anyway I don't know her name but i recognize her.. seems she still has the pink hair ^_^ and I've seen her a few times now. Yay! And yay for the designers not making her change her hair. Or maybe it should be a YAY for her refusing to change herself that much for a designer? Or has she started a trend? I don't remember the show name now but one show had 2 pink-haired models! Unless somehow her outfit was changed? Would a single model do two different looks on a runway? doesn't seem like there'd be enough time?

Is it me or do most fashion shows seem to use & share the same trance-club-techno type soundtrack?

And it's 4am again... well if I'd gone to that show, which was slated to end at midnight, I might not have gotten home til now anyway what with all the traffic trying to get out of there XD

4:31 am bad bad me... am i even gonna go to church tomorrow? i should.. I only intended to watch the new fashion vids.

awww now at a Charlotte backstage vid.. Annabelle's adorable...."I get butterflies because... (gets really soft) ..I'm not a real model.." Awwwww and i love how Charlotte and Samantha actually have similar movements and mannerisms yet they're so different. And this is the first time i've ever heard Annabelle's voice. She even sounds like the twins a little bit. Definitely sisters ^_^
It's weird but in some ways Annabelle sounds more like Samantha than Charlotte does.. i bet it's because both Samantha and Annabelle smoke.. and Charlotte does not smoke.
Smoking doesn't just destroy your lungs.. it changes, and eventually ruins, the voice.

Damn it Samantha! Ninja-kick the fucking marlboros!!!!!!!
*growls*
Moving on... hey lookie it's 5am now. i need to finish the new vids, just the new ones, I've seen the old vids sooooo many times...
Just finish the new vids, add a few to get the swagmeter filled and kick over.. then off to a brief nap i guess.

I'll be trying one of my many dry shampoos I guess.
And the swagvids are doing something very strange now.. time to top this off and be done. I saw Charlotte's work, and i lust after that blue skirt even more now that i've seen it in motion.
5:20am and i'm calling it.
Heh... we'll see if i get my lazy ass up tomorrow ^_^

  1. "Ready to wear" has some secret-code meaning the rest of us haven't figured out yet....

YES, install AIM!! The acupuncture/natural sleep remedies have slowly stopped working, so I'm back to Professional Insomniac status.

Aquascutum?? That sounds like a dirty word... XD I'm so mature.

Have you ever seen Zoolander? I generally hate Ben Stiller films, but I thought that one was hysterical. Plus Milla Jovovich is in it playing a super hot Russian. The fashion industry always makes me think of that film.

De La Renta is one of the few who knows what he's doing.

Psssssst makes a good dry spray-on shampoo.

I can't remember if I asked you this before or not--in my continuing quest to finish the Fairy Queen, I find myself in desperate need of feedback. You're the first person I thought of. Would you be interested in me emailing you the book? It's seriously like 5 pages away from done, but I'm writing it at about 5 sentences per day and I'm BLOCKED AS ALL HECK.

Hope you got some sleep. <3
